I love when new tech brings me back to when I was young. One of the early video game systems, the Atari, is being brought back to us via a new wireless iPad dock called the iCade.
The iCade sports an arcade-style gaming cabinet making it feel as if you are playing with an arcade game rather than with your iPad. All you have to do is slide your iPad in through the top of the cabinet, close the top, and everything is connected via Bluetooth.
The case is tough looking and the controls are very reminiscent of an arcade game. It has eight buttons and a joy stick so you are sure to get all of the retro-fun you can possibly get out of your iPad.
The iCade comes packaged only with Asteroids but Atari has listed even more classic games on iTunes. Furthermore, they’re planning on releasing the API so game developers can make their games iCade compatable.
This awesome-looking gadget is coming to us from Ion Audio in partnership with Atari and ThinkGeek. The funny story behind it is that the concept was actually thought up by ThinkGeek as an April Fools joke. In fact, they never thought it would actually be produced. As awesome an idea as it was, the iCade had to become real!
